Mrs. Haggerty gave us the opportunity to get an A for the year... This is what she wrote:
For this assignment I am taking a page from Benjamin Zander’s book, The Art of Possibility, and giving you all an A...for the YEAR!!! There is only one catch - honestly reflect and complete this assignment.
Write a paper outlining in detail, what has happened to you between now and May that has earned you this extraordinary grade (and for AP Students, how you will earn the 5).
Include insights and milestones attained throughout the year, as if you have already accomplished them. Everything should be written in the past tense! I am especially interested in hearing about the person that you have become by May. (No phrases such as “I hope” or “I intend.”)
As Zander says, “The A is not an expectation to live up to, but a possibility to live in to.”
This will be your second blog post. If AP, please review the Scoring Guideline - section pertaining to 2-D Design Portfolios (pages 1-12) and the section pertaining to Drawing Portfolios (pages 25-36). Also refer to the class handout AP Studio Art brochure. Art II you should refer to artistic behaviors and can also incorporate design challenges from the AP course.
You may cite any example of past work and include pics of you recent block carving exercise as a jumping off point. Please include at least 2 images.

I earned an A in AP Drawing and a 5 on my AP test because I put my mind too it. One of my biggest issues with anything is that I dont have the confidence to do something the way I know I can. This year that’s different. Senior year was nothing like I expected it to be. It was better. I’m so happy with the school I choose and can’t wait to start there in the fall. I really challenged myself this year by taking AP Drawing, because my past years in art I haven’t done very much drawing. I am so happy with how all my skills developed throughout the year. I learned how to be able to put myself in the zone to draw and how to use the right brain left brain aspects of things to my advantage.I think I finally began to get used to working with charcoal surprisingly enough, but my favorite is still graphite. I never thought someone could use so many tortillions… Each project we did I think was better than the last. |
The biggest thing I did this year was take risks and my biggest challenge was being able to communicate things through my art. in many of my drawrings I found that I really liked the darker values and how they make my work look more realistic. This is one of the best examples of this. The first thing I ever really drew was the hand drawing last year. Before that drawing everything always looked very cartoony. It really is finished I just like this picture with all the supplies better than the hand by itself. Learning to draw, really draw made me feel like I was really an artist. Once I felt like an artist everything began to fall into place. I am so proud of all the artwork I produced this year and hope that I will continue to make art that I am proud of and want to share with others. |
First week Collaboration
We were given a theme of nature and then made easy carve block prints. Mine was a butterfly. In our group (Hannah, Brenna and Christine) we decided to make a pattern design with our prints. This was the first time we've really done a collaborative project which was interesting
