The central idea of my concentration is the relationship between straight lines and color. I tend to be a huge perfectionist and because of this I have trouble creating realistic art. Using straight line I was able to create art that was in my mind “perfect”. In the works in my concentration tried to create unity and balance through colors and their placement.

I am most definitely guilty of all 10 of the Top 10 Mistakes Made by Art Students except the firs one. I take art because I truly want to make Art and get better at making art. I think a lot of the time I get frustrated with myself because I am such a perfectionist. The last drawing I did, the ballet shoes, I really like. But Mrs. Haggerty is right that I work too slow. Im scared of making a mistake that I can't fix, when I should be making those mistakes so I can learn from them. This I would put into the "Taking to Long to Start" section of this post. I always want everything to look exactly like it looks in real life.
Recently I have thought about making my concentration centered around dance. I came up with a list of a bunch of things that I think would be cool to draw but I have no clue where to start. Heres the list
I'm worried that I won't be happy with the way my portfolio is going to turn out. I was really proud of it last year. As much as I want to do well with my portfolio I think that's part of the reason my art is suffering. The worst that can happen is that I get a 1. I hope that the rest of this year goes better than the beginning of the year. Soo at first I have no clue what to do for boundaries. I don't know how it popped into my mind but I had the idea of drawing the floor plan of a house. I originally wanted to do my house, but that seemed too difficult. I asked my dad if he had them because that's something he would have, but he didn't. So I essentially just made up a house. Woo! The hardest part would be making sure everything. Is perfectly perpendicular and straight. If it isn't everything looks off. My dad says that the human eye can see if something is off 90* by a single degree. He is definitely right. After doing our calligraphy unit I fell in love. I love ink and the pen tips and how they write and draw. A few weeks ago I made my mom bring me to to A.C. Moored and we bought a set all my own. It came with like 12 nibs and 2 different pens. I got ink but I don't really like it that much. I might order some online. But back to boundaries... For me especially being at home and being out in public are pretty different. Out in public I'm always making sure that what I say and do is respectful and polite. While I do the same thing at home I'm not worried about speaking my mind. My parents and I are all pretty open about our views on things. Each room in the house I drew isn't labeled what room it is. It is labeled things like "say what I want", "eat what I want", "wear what I want" and I'm still trying to figure out what the other rooms will be. The boundary of entering your house lets you be an do and live the way you want to.
So my bloom where you are planted project was pretty much a fail... I painted 3 rainbows and they all went missing. My original plan was to pain a rainbow like the one used in support of gay rights and write Bloom where you are planted on a transparency and use it as an overlay. This is really the first thing I thought of when I heard "Bloom where you are planted". I cannot even imagine what it would be like to be in a position like some people are where they aren't accepted for who they are. In my mind being born is like being planted and some people are born straight and some people are born gay, or transgende and that is the person they should be. They shouldn't have to change to be accepted. They should be able to be "transparent" about their feeling and who they love, which is why I wanted to write on the transparency. I wish I had an image to use for this project, hopefully the rainbows show up soon.

I earned an A in AP Drawing and a 5 on my AP test because I put my mind too it. One of my biggest issues with anything is that I dont have the confidence to do something the way I know I can. This year that’s different. Senior year was nothing like I expected it to be. It was better. I’m so happy with the school I choose and can’t wait to start there in the fall. I really challenged myself this year by taking AP Drawing, because my past years in art I haven’t done very much drawing. I am so happy with how all my skills developed throughout the year. I learned how to be able to put myself in the zone to draw and how to use the right brain left brain aspects of things to my advantage.I think I finally began to get used to working with charcoal surprisingly enough, but my favorite is still graphite. I never thought someone could use so many tortillions… Each project we did I think was better than the last. |
The biggest thing I did this year was take risks and my biggest challenge was being able to communicate things through my art. in many of my drawrings I found that I really liked the darker values and how they make my work look more realistic. This is one of the best examples of this. The first thing I ever really drew was the hand drawing last year. Before that drawing everything always looked very cartoony. It really is finished I just like this picture with all the supplies better than the hand by itself. Learning to draw, really draw made me feel like I was really an artist. Once I felt like an artist everything began to fall into place. I am so proud of all the artwork I produced this year and hope that I will continue to make art that I am proud of and want to share with others. |
First week Collaboration
We were given a theme of nature and then made easy carve block prints. Mine was a butterfly. In our group (Hannah, Brenna and Christine) we decided to make a pattern design with our prints. This was the first time we've really done a collaborative project which was interesting
This summer was crazy!
Even though it was hectic it was awesome and so much fun!
This year I am taking AP Drawing!
The two pieces we did for AP Art this summer were really cool and I’m happy with the way both of them turned out (or are turning out really). The still life project took a really long time. I set up the items in my dining room at the beginning of the summer but never really did much drawing until the end. I tried to use a beach or ocean theme.

I don’t have a finished photo yet because I really want to add a sand dollar to the lower right side where there is a huge empty space. I think my biggest difficulty with this drawing was figuring out where the shapes needed to go. Once I got the general area of them I started to do the details which really made it all come together. At first I was too focused on making the items themselves, especially the bathing suit, looked right that I didn’t do any of the shading around them. After I added the darker values it made the shapes look right which was pretty eye opening to me. Drawing is really a process and I keep getting caught up in the little pieces of it instead of the big picture. This is something I really need to work on. I’m too much of a perfectionist to take risks, but once I do they usually work out.
For my second drawing I decided to use a picture from my solo in dance 2 years ago. The first drawing was with graphite and the second was in charcoal.
So, first of all I hate working with charcoal….
For my second drawing I decided to use a picture from my solo in dance 2 years ago. The first drawing was with graphite and the second was in charcoal.
So, first of all I hate working with charcoal….
- it doesn’t stay where you put it
- or it only stays in that place and won’t blend at all
- it gets all over the white shirt you’re wearing
- it is really hard to erase
- I’m still trying to figure out what the white charcoal pencil is made of that I got in the art room
My original plan was to do the whole thing with the black charcoal. Once I had started and done certain parts of the body I used the white charcoal to kind of just give myself an idea of where the dress/costume thing would be. As I worked around the outline on the arms and the chest/neck I realized how much I liked the white aspect of it. So the dress is now white and I am now in different shades of grey. This really fits with the song that this dance was to. It’s called “Just a Dream” by Carrie Underwood. At the beginning of the song you are lead to believe that the young girl is going to her wedding but it’s really the funeral for her husband who died in the military. The colors help to show the emotions going on in the song.
I really like how they're turning out!

These are the images I submitted for the breadth section of the AP portfolio. This is the section to show diversity in art and the use of different mediums. A few of these are projects I did in my photography class Sophomore year.
These we the pictures I used for my concentration portfolio. They are all from my trip to France and Spain. This trip was the best experience of my life and I loved looking through the pictures to choose my best. I made sure I used the rule of thirds and the elements and principles of design.
I had a little fun this week with an app on my phone called PicLab its super cool and easy to use.
I also have another app called VSCO (pretty much just like Instagram except there not liking and commenting just editing and appreciating amazing photography) and it allows you to do TONS of edits on pictures which is how I got this lovely purple Eiffel Tower picture and the colors in the first one. Then I used PicLab to add the two quotes.
We also had a bunch of left over dye from our Batiks so Mrs.Haggerty let us make Tie Dye!
We took a walk to a local farm to get ice cream one day and this little cutie was hanging around! I loved the movement of his paws.
I went for more of a muppet look instead of ugly. Any suggestions for a name?
I think the hardest part of working with clay was having long nails... they kept digging into the clay while I was trying to smooth it out and therefor making more i needed to smoothen out. The outside was easier than the inside and that means the outside is a lot smoother than the inside. We still don't really have a guide for our glazes so it sort of an adventure when we are working with clay to what color it will turn out to be. Most of the glazes I used could have had another coat but I decided to leave him the way he was.
