For this project my classmates took pictures of themselves and made them into two values of black and white then traced them from the computer onto a piece of paper. They used the words they wrote (some people did song lyrics and what not) as the value in the images to create a portrait. For my project since they were doing this while I spent an ENTIRE week editing pictures for AP I chose something a little different. I wrote the a chapter from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in the shape of the Deathly Hallows. I went through the same process as everyone else but mine just wasn't a picture of my face. The chapter that I choose was The Tale of the Three Brothers in which the Deathly Hallows are explained. If you couldn't tell already I'm slightly obsessed with Harry Potter (okay fine majorly obsessed)... The week I finished this project I had also written an 8 page paper on Harry Potter. But enough of that here it is, just promise not to look too close.....
I know thats kind of an oxymoron but it'll make sense.

After researching our artist we did a piece inspired by them.
I did a zebra. I probably spent close to 5 hours working on this painting and I'm proud of myself for finishing it. It was the last thing I needed for my AP Art portfolio so it needed to be done. Adding the black outline really made a difference in my opinion. This was probably one of the most fun projects we did this year! The wall outside of the library is huge and we used blue painters tape to create one and two point perspective designs. My group chose to do a building that looks like those mirror skyscrapers. In the middle of the two building we made a cross walk like the one on the Abbey Road Album cover. The building on the right shows two point perspective and the building on the left is one point. I really like how it turned out and it was tons of fun to make. We had to use a lot of team work because the pieces of tape were so long.
This was our first try at using charcoal. Like most things it took some getting used to. What made it hard for me was that once you touched a line it was significantly lighter than it was before which made it really hard to get darker values. I really like how it turned out. This project was interesting because it wasn't really a drapery so it is hard to tell from the picture if you hadn't known that already.
Paint night! Well more like paint couple days in a row. To start this project we painted all of our pieces of paper bright red then followed the instructions on the board that Mrs. Haggerty had given us. Next we used chalk to draw the shapes of our pears and then painted them with warm yellow. We learned techniques to make the paint blend together like the yellow green to born that happened on the right side, and also the high light on the left side. For the background colors it took a couple layers of paint to make it really dark like the way I wanted. Who doesn't like a good paint squish image? For Christmas my parents bought me a huge art portfolio and kit. It came with and easel oil, acrylic and water color paints, colored pencils, graphite pencils, oil and chalk pastels and paint brushes. I was really excited and opened it immediately. The package was huge and I had no clue what it was going to be, let alone I didn't realize it was hiding behind the tree until Christmas Eve. For the rest of break I would drew until like midnight. First I drew some eyes using a tutorial I found on Pinterest. Next I worked on Princess Bubblegum from Adventure time. Lastly I drew some hair while watching High School Musical # on Disney Channel.
To make these ornaments we used both terra-cotta and white clay. After the clay was rolled out we used cookie cutters to make the shapes. I made my the first one for my little cousin Leila. Her favorite color is pink so I used a fuchsia glaze to paint it. The second one I made look like a snow globe. I used mostly paint pens to draw the snowman. The make the letters Mrs. Haggerty brought us alphabet soup pasta that we stuck into the clay and when it was fired in the kiln it was burnt up and left the impression of the letters. I used some water to round the edged of the snow globe and left them alone on the snowflake.
If you didn't know already I'm a dancer and thats where I got my inspiration for this piece. This once I drew the dancer I did somewhat of a Zentangle design around her. The carving was by far the harder part. I found myself pushing the handle of the tools onto the top of my other hand to pull the blade up. It took us almost 2 weeks to carve and we had another week to print. I was the last one to finish carving because of how detailed parts of it were. The pictures show my progression of carving. When I talked to my dad about this project he told me about how when my parents first got married he carved their Christmas card out of linoleum like this. I brought some of the blocks in to show my classmates and we all thought it was pretty cool.
